10 Great Tips for Twitter Beginners

Tips for Beginners

Many blogs seem to have forgotten that there are new Twitter users signing up every day; they focus their posts on those who know their way around Twitter and just end up providing all sorts of advanced tips!

However, we know better and therefore, out of concern for the new Twitter users, we bring you 10 great tips for Twitter beginners:

  1. Build lists to watch people who matter to you more closely.
  2. You don’t have to read EVERY tweet (it is a waste of time and effort!)
  3. Customized @replies and mentions show other tweeps your humanity and engagement.
  4. Shrink your ULRs; it saves characters and also helps you follow up on and track traffic. Ow.ly and bit.ly are my favorites, and they are free too!
  5. Use Search.twitter.com to find your friends, celebrities, or organizations, or for searching for specific topics you’re interested in.
  6. Use hashtags (#) to categorize your tweets. This makes it easier for others to find the subject of your tweet.
  7. Share pictures with other tweeps. Services like TwitPic allows you to easily upload your photos and post them directly to Twitter.
  8. Choose a Desktop client that fits your needs. Desktop clients such as TweetDeck, Twhirl, and Hootsuite allow you to  receive tweets in a much more manageable fashion, especially if you follow a lot of people, respond often, and use direct messages .
  9. Try to update daily since many tweeps might decide to follow or unfollow you based on your activity. (Tweepi is a great tool to help them figure that out!)
  10. Be patient; don’t sign up today and think you’ll have a thousand followers by tomorrow!

Hope you found those tips useful.
