    11. Thou shalt specify one’s location, at least to the state or province level. “Everywhere”, “The Universe”, “In your thoughts”, and all other manner of tiresome, cutesy-wootsey answers don’t count.

    12. Thou shalt use an actual, recognizable picture of thine own face as an avatar. Not your precious cat, not your cute baby, not you in kindergarten, not your logo. Your face. Get it?

Eleventh tip perhaps: Thou shall always be courteous to a new follower and thank him/her for having done so.

Seriously? Maybe if it is a personal message, but the automated crap doesn’t add anything.

That’s right…. lemme re-state it: Thou shall always be courteous to a new human follower and thank him/her for having done so.

Hi there, I think that is a great post. I have already tried to action ALL of them.

To those who say- ‘use your own face’. There are people who have very good reasons for not using their own face, often connected with mental health issues.  I would sometimes have great problems logging in to twitter or facebook if confronted by my own face every time, and I know someone who can’t have a mirror in the house and works hard to avoid catching a glimpse of himself in shop windows. Be a bit more tolerant and understanding, please. Life isn’t always as straightforward as you seem to think it is.

I never said use your own picture. You can use any related picture but keeping the “egg” avatar is the worst thing one can do.

    Thou shalt use hashtags appropriately.

      I totally agree :)

yeah it’s annoying when you see tweets full of random hashtags.

I’d love a blog post about effective and proper hashtag use.

What if our tweets are set to private and can’t be retweeted?

Then, if it were me, I would not follow that person to begin with :)

“Thou shalt not clog thine follower´s timeline”. Meaning: don´t send ten messages within a minute. That´s just annoying. One message every so often will do.

    • http://www.randomlyspeakingpoeticallythinking.com/ Miss Sara

Ummm… guess what?  If I want to send 10 tweets in a minute I can do that.  IT’S MY TL.  Click unfollow or follow more ppl so my tweets don’t flood your TL.

  • Feto

Why do you use “thou” instead of “you”?

  • http://www.randomlyspeakingpoeticallythinking.com/ Miss Sara

Ooooh… weee… some of y’all are just too picky… I would rather follow REAL ppl w/ REAL tweets.  PERIOD.  If you don’t like a tweeter, don’t follow them instead of complaining about them.  & p.s., some of us have professions in which we cannot post a real pic or a location due to safety reasons.  Sheesh.  Your TL’s are probably *yawn*

    Should be “thou shalt not…
