10 Tips for Success on Twitter (2)

Welcome back to part 2 of our Twitter success tips. Here are 5 more tips to help you make better use of Twitter:

1. Invest in Efforts:

A quick direct message to thank a new follower, or a simple message sent to a Twitter friend you have not seen in a while says a lot about how important connections are to you. These extra efforts don’t take much time or effort, but mean the world as you are building and sustaining your network.

2. Ask Questions:

Never hesitate to continuously ask questions. Questions help initiate conversations and they help you and others learn new things all the time.

3. Proclaim:

Don’t be shy about proclaiming the accomplishments of others. Twitter is not only about self promotion but rather the promotion of all who can make the conversation better. ReTweeting, sharing links, and pointing your followers to others they may not yet know about adds value to the entire experience. Continue reading »

10 Tips for Success on Twitter (1)

Ever wondered why you are not benefiting from Twitter as others are? Ever wondered where you have been going wrong? If so, this is the right post for you! Today we will be giving you 5 tips for success on Twitter that are easy to apply and have proven to be effective with many throughout their Twitter usage (and mine as well):

1. Repeat Your Tweets:

Many tweeps fear that repeating tweets every now and then could get them unfollowed in the long run. However, and from personal experience, I can assure you otherwise and that it is alright to repeat tweets every now and then in order to make sure that your Twitter friends end up seeing them (especially since many Twitter streams might be flooded with tweets and might simply miss yours).

2. Stay Upbeat & Positive:

Although you might not want to believe this, but no one likes drama, badmouthing or plain negativity. This doesn’t mean that you should be something you are not but with every tweet you have a choice. Be positive or stay away.

3. Test Your Tweet Times:

Tweets must always be planned based on where you are and what your time zone is. Therefore, it is important to test your tweet times. This can be achieved  using multiple bit.ly or ow.ly short URLs and via testing tweeting at different times of day. Give yourself the best chance of being RT’d by influential followers by knowing when they are likely to be on Twitter. Continue reading »

6 Things About Twitter that Make Me Mad!

I love Twitter, I really do; I love how it connects you to people from all over the world, people who would never ever get the chance to meet otherwise! I also love how it helps you promote different products, services and people while having to stick to a certain number of characters which, naturally, teaches you how to be creative in a unique manner.

The Angry Twitter Bird :)

The Angry Twitter Bird :)

However, there are a few things about Twitter that can drive me (and many others) nuts. So, for today’s post, I will be sharing those things with you in order to help you realize what you should try to avoid when using Twitter so you will get less unfollows and more follows:

So what are the things that make me mad wen it comes to Twitter?

1. “So-Called Gurus” on Twitter:

Whether you are an expert in marketing or any other field, I think claiming that you are a “guru” is very pretentious and annoying. I actually know many so-called gurus who have less followers than regular, sharing and active tweeps!

2. Twitter Users with Eggs as Avatars:

I usually look at the avatars of those whom I intend to follow on Twitter. To me, an “egg” avatar is somewhat insulting in the sense that thousands of Twitter users took the time to make sure they have unique avatars while those with the egg avatars didn’t even bother. Here’s the thing: I will not follow you if you had an egg for your avatar, regardless of how active you are; others agree with me as well!

3. Bio-Less Twitter Profiles:

Your Twitter profile is your introduction to new followers as well as a great way to put yourself on the internet map, therefore, you should invest time in creating a strong bio for yourself. If you don’t, you will probably be unfollowed using applications such as Tweepi. Continue reading »

Twitter & Vacations: Easy & Simple Tips

It had been two years and 6 months since I had taken an internet-less vacation and it was about time, so I finally did. However, for the 10 days I was away, I had this constant worry about how my vacation would effect my relationship with current and potential Twitter followers and how it would influence my klout score.

Honestly, I worried about it all throughout my vacation – given that I am a social media addict – and this is why I though about writing this post.

Twitter Vacation Joke

Twitter Vacation Joke

There are 2 main ways to go about this depending on the type of person you are and the place you are going to for vacation:

1) If you will have internet connection, you have one of two options:

a. Decide to use the internet regularly regardless of the extra roaming charges (this means you will have to keep up with your regular tweeting pace and make sure that you don’t deviate much from it).

b. Decide not to use the internet at all (go to option 2).

2) If you will not have internet connection at all:

Whether you decide not to use the internet on vacation or you simple don’t have access, you have two main options: Continue reading »

5 Twitter Etiquette Tips for All Twitter Users

Twitter Etiquette

Twitter Etiquette

Tweeting “right” is not a piece of cake, especially if your intentions go beyond the random act of tweeting to actually promoting products, services and/or people.

Therefore, for today’s post, I”ll be sharing with you 5 Twitter etiquette tips that work for all you Twitter users out there:

  1. Avoid text speak and “dnt tlk lyk ths”- if you are not able squeeze a proper sentence into 140 characters (or, ideally, less), just keep on trying; nobody likes random, incomplete and senseless sentences!
  2. Find the balance between being overly negative and too happy. Neither are enormously popular except with others like them. Don’t be somebody you’re not, but if the real you is a jerk, a sap or a fraud, you should probably work on it.
  3. It goes without saying, but trolls, bullies, spammers and stalkers are not welcome (MySpace would work better for those!) Continue reading »
