10 Tips for Success on Twitter (1)

Ever wondered why you are not benefiting from Twitter as others are? Ever wondered where you have been going wrong? If so, this is the right post for you! Today we will be giving you 5 tips for success on Twitter that are easy to apply and have proven to be effective with many throughout their Twitter usage (and mine as well):

1. Repeat Your Tweets:

Many tweeps fear that repeating tweets every now and then could get them unfollowed in the long run. However, and from personal experience, I can assure you otherwise and that it is alright to repeat tweets every now and then in order to make sure that your Twitter friends end up seeing them (especially since many Twitter streams might be flooded with tweets and might simply miss yours).

2. Stay Upbeat & Positive:

Although you might not want to believe this, but no one likes drama, badmouthing or plain negativity. This doesn’t mean that you should be something you are not but with every tweet you have a choice. Be positive or stay away.

3. Test Your Tweet Times:

Tweets must always be planned based on where you are and what your time zone is. Therefore, it is important to test your tweet times. This can be achieved  using multiple bit.ly or ow.ly short URLs and via testing tweeting at different times of day. Give yourself the best chance of being RT’d by influential followers by knowing when they are likely to be on Twitter. Continue reading »

4 Real-Time Search Engines Which Go Beyond Twitter

The real time search engine market has been firing-up and there are many services trying to gain some market share in this area. We followed a simple criteria to pick services and build our list: The service must be (1) Real-time and (2) NOT limited to Twitter search results. Here we go:

1. Twingly’s Microblog Search: It covers Twitter, Identica, Bleeper, and a few other services. It’s dedicated to microblogging and offers a RSS subscription option for your searches. While being dominated by Twitter results, it gives you the option of filtering it out by un-checking a box on the side of the page. This makes Twingly one of the most customizable real-time search services covered in this article.

2. Social Mention: Social Mention covers 80+ social media services including all of the major players (Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed, YouTube, Digg, Google, etc). While it has one of the neatest and most clean interfaces among the services we covered, it seems to be the slowest one – showing a list of flashing stars for up to 1 minutes sometimes! We like the various options it provides: the tab options, alerts, RSS subscriptions, the ranking/trending system, and the option of exporting your search results into CSV/Excel file, but slow speed is a deal-breaker! On the other hand, for social alerts and comprehensiveness, it’s one of the best.

3. FriendFeed Search: It shows results from Twitter, StumbleUpon, Delicious and tens of other social media services. It allows a user to connect and collect all his social Web activities into one place. If you are looking for your friends’ opinions regarding a certain topic, FF is great, if you want to perform a comprehensive search, most probably FF won’t cut it as it only indexes the users registered with their service.

4. LifeStream.fm Search: It’s a similar service to FriendFeed and supports 40+ services including the major social media websites (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit, Stumble upon, Pownce, and Digg). Unfortunately it only searches events of the users subscribed to their services. This puts it at the same disadvantage as FriendFeed.

While there are a lot of similarities in the services provided by the above real-time search engines, there are also some unique differences that make each one of them unique in a way or another.

Which one is your favorite? Do you think real-time search is valuable or maybe over-rated? Please use the comments section below to let us know your thoughts.

10 Tips for Keeping Your Twitter Followers Hooked on You!

Tweepi cares about whom you follow and unfollow. Just like FFhelper, it was designed to make your Twitter experience more fun and valuable.

Therefore, I have decided to share with you ten simple tips on how to cut through Twitter’s noise clutter and keep your target audience hooked!

1. Please, please, cut the crap!

We all should know that there is nothing called easy money. Therefore, you should refrain from sharing or spreading tweets such as: “The best way to make money online http://miniurls.it/qYTNe4“. Not only is this kind of tweet considered spam, it is also annoying and can easily demolish your Twitter credibility.

2. Know your followers:

And no, I don’t mean start making house visits to each and every one of them! I am just asking you to take some time, visit their blogs or websites, know what they are trying to achieve from their Twitter experience. It’s not all about you! Even in a virtual world, there is always tit for tat!

3. Don’t get hung up on numbers:

Many tweeps out there have thousands of followers yet the content they try to promote fails to attract anyone. Use Twitter tools such as Tweepi to manage your followers, see how active they are, reciprocate follows and remove those spammers who flood your home feed!

4. Monitor the links your retweet:

Sharing links is a great opportunity to promote yourself, your product and/or your service. However, it is also a sneaky way to promote violence, racism and more dramatic subjects. So please, take a minute to check out the link you’re about to retweet, for it may really cause harm to someone’s life! Continue reading »
