Successful viral marketing on Twitter is not as simple as many assume, however, with the right guidelines and steps, it can be done and bring about a rewarding outcome!
Therefore, for today’s post, I will be sharing you 5 simple steps to going viral on Twitter:
1. Call on Action:
Don’t take retweeting, or lack of it, lightly. An RT is a way to show your Twitter friends and followers that you care about them and about the content they share with you. If retweeting is the action you wish your readers to take, the best way to persuade people to do it is to motivate them to by asking or offering incentives. When tweeps retweets your content, they’re very likely to also repost your call to action, lending it their credibility and influence.
2. Timing is King:
There is a window of time during which sharing on Twitter occurs more often so you should keep an eye on the following:
- The first few days of the business week.
- Monday through Wednesday (weekends are usually slower).
3. Links Rule:
Almost 70% of all retweets contain a link. Therefore, if you want to spread your off-Twitter content, you should make sure that you do utilize links in your tweets. However, make sure you do mix it up with other types of tweets now and then and do not spam your followers with ads! Continue reading »

Some people think that in order to measure the influence of a tweep on Twitter, you should only look at the number of people following him/her and hence the larger it is, the more influence that tweep has. However, the number of followers is a misleading indicator of influence!
To actually measure the influence of anybody, you need to figure out how many people are listening to them(#followers), how often do they talk to their audience (#tweets), and how often they get mentioned by others(#RT’s).
Therefore, when deciding who to add to your account, make sure to check those parameters and not only the number of followers because while someone might have a lot of followers, he/she might not be active enough to capitalize on them.
You can also refer to the Klout score to find a measure of any tweets influence or you can check your impact by going here to the Twitalyzer website which has recently released the list of the most influential tweets and contrasted it with that of most followers.

Your influence on Twitter is not measured by the number of people following you, it’s measured by your ability to influence your followers. To increase your influence on Twitter, you should consider catering to niches. You can do that by creating Twitter accounts for each topic that you want to talk about instead of discussing them all through a single account.
This is a good idea for the same reason that it is a good idea to have clearly indicated sections in a newspaper. This way, those who are only interested in reading about the economy don’t have to weed through the sport news item to find their economical news.
So, if your business wants to offer customer service along side the accounts role in PR, consider creating 2 accounts even though they are managed by a single person. To simplify managing multiple accounts you should consider using services such as Hootsuite to help you achieve that task.
